One Domain Name + One Product = Many Profits http://www.DomainRepo.com There is no doubt that during your internet travels you have come across one of those generic looking webmalls. They all look pretty much the same: tons of affiliate links, no content and a long freebie URL that you would never remember (nor care to remember) in a million years. Are they profiting much from their affiliate programs: probably not. As the internet continues to explode, you will no doubt find more of these "malls" creeping up. If you are serious about making money with affiliate programs, you need to separate yourself from the pack. People generally surf the internet with a goal. They are looking to solve a problem. It could be to lose weight, make more money or make new friends. Find a product or service that helps solve that problem and you will be successful! What are the most common ways a person will find your product? Search engines, links, etc. This is why you need your own domain name. If you have a domain name that contains keywords you will usually receive a higher listing then those without. Some of the specialized human edited directories may not even accept your site if it is a freebie (tripod, angelfire, etc.). Not only will you achieve better search engine listings, but it will also enhance your professional image. If you want to have people trust you and click that link to buy, you had better have your own domain name. If you are like me, you see a "freebie" URL, and you go right past it without a second thought. "How can I trust a company that cannot even afford to spend $20-$30 to buy their own domain name?" A domain name only costs between $20 to $30 per year. Think about how little that costs in terms of starting a business. If someone told you 5 years ago that you could start a business for about $50 you would have laughed. If you see a good domain name, don't hesitate. Buy it! The worst case scenario is that you lost $30. What is a good domain name to choose? Good question! Let's look at a hypothetical example: First, do your research and find a quality product that there is a need for, you believe in and one that will be profitable. Let's say you found an acne cream that is guaranteed to reduce acne. It sells for $39.95 and there is a 15% commission. That is roughly $6 commission per sale. Not bad. Remember when creating your site, don't just have a link to your product and nothing else. Add articles and discussion groups about acne. Create a newsletter. In other words, create a community and build trust. Second, visit GoTo.com's search suggestion listing. Type in acne. Take a look at the terms were being searched most often. Here are the most popular searches when I looked up acne: acne, acne treatment, adult acne, acne scar. Next try to find a domain name that is easy to remember and contains the keywords from your GoTo search. If you can find one such as acne.com, acnescar.com or acnetreatment.com; Congratulations! But it is usually not that easy. Your next stop is to try and find creative domain names. Maybe something like: NoAcne.com, TreatAcne.com, AcneCream.com or GoodbyeAcne.com. You get the picture. Make it short, descriptive and easy to remember. If you are using your own name, you should still keep a keyword in there. For example, MarysTreatment.com would not be as good as AndysAcneArsenal.com Another resource is to subscribe to DomainRepo.com. It is a free weekly newsletter that features high quality domain names that have recently expired. Once a name is expired it is repossessed. These repossessed domain names are then put back into the open market. In fact, many of the domain names I own were expired domains. If that doesn't work, try a combination of the popular words. How about: adult-acne-treatment.com, acne-scar.com or acne-scar-treatment.com. Get the picture. Most of these types of combinations (with hyphens) are available. And since you are using the hyphen, it has a better chance of being picked up by the search engine spiders. Try and stay with the .com extension. It has become synonymous with the internet and is much more recognized than the .net, .org, .cc, etc.. This is true especially if you will be doing offline publicity and marketing. Keep focused and you will prosper. Remember the magic formula for affiliate success: One Domain Name + One Product = Many Profits. Ryan Lee is the founder of DomainRepo.com.
